With airline baggage fees at an all-time high, here are some tips to help you pack like a pro for your next getaway.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

If you loathe packing for a holiday, you\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n

Sixty-two per cent of people find the act of squeezing clothing, shoes, toiletries, chargers and accessories into a suitcase stressful.*<\/p>\n

The issue has become even more anxiety-inducing in recent years as airlines have introduced stricter luggage allowances and higher baggage charges.<\/p>\n

(Always check carefully what the rules are before you get to the airport; pleading ignorance at the gate just won\u2019t cut it with airline staff.)<\/p>\n

So to help you pack smarter for your next holiday, here are three useful tips.<\/p>\n

Make a list<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Shoving everything into a bag in a last-minute panic is a recipe for disaster \u2013 you\u2019re bound to forget something.<\/p>\n

Instead, make a list a few days before you travel.<\/p>\n

Consider carefully what the weather will be like at your destination and the activities that you plan to do.<\/p>\n

Choose clothing that is practical, versatile and comfortable (avoid things like new shoes that could cause blisters on your first outing).<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget essentials such as sunscreen, a phone charger and, if you\u2019re heading abroad, an adapter.<\/p>\n

Lay all your items out on the bed<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Lay everything you plan to take with you out on your bed.<\/p>\n

This is a great way to check that you haven\u2019t overlooked something obvious (such as underwear or swimwear; it can happen).<\/p>\n

It also provides a clear picture of how much you intend to take and an opportunity to consider whether some items are unnecessary (about 25% of items we pack never see the light of day on our holiday**).<\/p>\n

Take your time<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Some travellers swear by rolling clothes tightly; others are committed folders.<\/p>\n

Whatever your preferred option, it\u2019s worth taking the time to arrange things with care.<\/p>\n

Start by placing underwear and socks in your shoes before laying your shoes top to toe in your bag.<\/p>\n

Then place shirts, trousers and towels around them. Bulkier items such as jumpers and jackets can be placed on top.<\/p>\n
