A forest (or if you can\u2019t manage a forest, a single living tree)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Trees do amazing things for the planet, for wildlife and for us.<\/p>\n

If your friend or relative doesn\u2019t have room for a real tree, then arrange to plant a tree in a forest for them instead.<\/p>\n

The National Trust offers tree gifting from as little as a tenner and will send you a gift certificate too.<\/p>\n

A hamper of ethical goodies<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Put together a hamper of sustainable, organic or fairtrade goodies to suit the person you\u2019re giving to.<\/p>\n

Beeswax or soy candles, natural air fresheners, soaps and bath soaks make great home stocking fillers.<\/p>\n

Maybe stretch the home theme a little with some seasonal food and drink.<\/p>\n

Things we\u2019d love to receive (hint, hint for our MD): Fairtrade choccy, locally sourced honey, home-made preserves, real farm cheeses or a nice bottle or three of organic wine. (Make ours a Merlot.)<\/p>\n

Something solar<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Solar-powered products help reduce carbon emissions. Better still, they appeal to the Scrooge in us by saving on electricity bills and on buying batteries.<\/p>\n

Some nifty solar gift ideas include: solar lights, a solar fan for summer, a solar phone charger, solar home CCTV, and a solar clock or watch.<\/p>\n

A box of weeds (yep, weeds, hear us out here)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Or to give them their posh name, rewilding boxes.<\/p>\n

Rewilding boxes include native and wildflower seeds to sow in the garden, terrace planters, and window boxes. Not only do they add a splash of spring and summer colour, but they\u2019re great for the birds, the bees and the butterflies, too.<\/p>\n

You can buy purpose-made rewilding seed boxes online. Or pick up a selection of packet seeds at any garden centre.<\/p>\n

Good choices are borage, thyme, crazy daisy, nigella, cornflower, foxglove and poppy seeds.<\/p>\n

A class or experience<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s an ethical gift that lasts a lifetime.<\/p>\n

Gifting a class or experience helps your recipient learn a useful skill. One that can make their life more sustainable and healthier, reduce stress, and help them save cash too.<\/p>\n

Look for classes and experiences in home DIY, soft furnishings, clothes making, arts and crafts, cookery or gardening.<\/p>\n

Good old gift vouchers<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Soz to be a bit boring with this last one. But gift vouchers are THE ultimate ethical gift.<\/p>\n

A gift voucher means your friend or relative can spend the money on exactly what they want or need for their home. Much better than receiving something they don\u2019t wish to, which gets stuck in a drawer or, worse still, binned.<\/p>\n
