{"id":8341,"date":"2024-02-19T09:36:33","date_gmt":"2024-02-19T09:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.craneandco.co.uk\/pages\/?p=8341"},"modified":"2024-02-19T09:36:33","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T09:36:33","slug":"pet-power-four-amazing-stories-for-animal-lovers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.craneandco.co.uk\/pages\/pet-power-four-amazing-stories-for-animal-lovers\/","title":{"rendered":"Pet Power: Four Amazing Stories for Animal Lovers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #618899;\">From Corgis to cockatiels and Poodles to ponies \u2013 there\u2019s no doubt we Brits love our animals.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>And is it any <span style=\"color: #bda762;\">wonder<\/span> why?<\/p>\n<p>Pets make loyal and loving companions, can alleviate anxiety and loneliness, reduce blood pressure and make us laugh.<\/p>\n<p>So, as it\u2019s National Love Your Pet Day today (20 February), we\u2019re marking the occasion with four uplifting pet stories.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bda762;\"><strong>Poppy, the paediatric physiotherapy dog<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When 13-year-old Evie needed to learn to walk again after a life-threatening respiratory illness, loving Labradoodle Poppy was by her side.<\/p>\n<p>Poppy joined Evie, who has Down\u2019s syndrome, at her weekly hospital gym sessions at Addenbrooke\u2019s Hospital, Cambridge, in December.<\/p>\n<p>When things got tough for Evie, or she needed a little breather, she could stroke or play with Poppy to lift her spirits.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the close bond between patient and dog \u2013 and the dedication of NHS staff and the charity Pets as Therapy \u2013 Evie was well enough to spend Christmas at home with her family.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bda762;\"><strong>Peggy, the Chinese Crested \/ Pug cross<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And in the case of Peggy and her owner, Holly Middleton, this may well be the case.<\/p>\n<p>Peggy was crowned Britain\u2019s Ugliest Dog last year. And she certainly is distinctive.<\/p>\n<p>Hairless, apart from a white thatch of fur on her head, Peggy\u2019s tongue permanently hangs down the side of her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>But Holly won\u2019t hear a bad word said about her. She told Sky News: \u201cI think she\u2019s really cute, I don\u2019t think she\u2019s ugly.\u201d<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bda762;\"><strong>Zebby the cat<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Put your paws together for Zebby, National Cat of the Year 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The moggie who lives in Derbyshire with owner Genevieve Moss is a hearing cat.<\/p>\n<p>He alerts his deaf owner to noises around the home and provides endless cuddles and snuggles.<\/p>\n<p>Genevieve, 66, says Zebby is her best friend and saviour and means she never feels lonely.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bda762;\"><strong>\u00a0Alpacas Raymond, Rodney and Roy<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Who says you can\u2019t have a pet if you\u2019re a clean freak?<\/p>\n<p>Cleaning guru Sophie Hinchliffe (known as Mrs Hinch on social media) has a spotless abode and three alpacas.<\/p>\n<p>Raymond, Rodney and Roy spend much of their time in the garden but regularly come into the kitchen for treats. (Alpacas like raisins, apparently.)<\/p>\n<p>Sophie says her \u2018furry boys\u2019 have made her home complete. She told the Guardian her alpacas provide her with a sense of calm and contentment.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #618899;\"><strong>Are you a pet lover?
